Frequently Asked Questions About The Sunglass Fix

Why do you charge for the installation of rimless sunglass when the lenses require drilling and screwing into the frame?

If your lenses require screws or bolts to connect to your frame the replacement process becomes far more complex. In most instances, the screws are damaged, worn or completely missing and need to be replaced. The holes must be precision drilled within a fraction of a millimeter to ensure proper alignment. If mistakes are made, a new lens must be produced and the installment process started over. The installation requires more time and resources than traditional lenses. However, even with our installation charge, we still offer one of the most competitive rates in the market.

How are sunglass lenses replaced?

After receiving your sunglasses The Sunglass Fix inspects your frames and existing lenses to ensure a rebuild is suitable. In the rare instance the sunglasses can not be rebuilt, they will be returned and your money refunded.
After inspection, your hinges are tightened, the lenses are removed, and frames are ultrasonically cleaned. The frames or existing lenses are  robotically traced to collect over two thousand reference points. This tracing data is passed to the lens edging machine and used to create your new set of sunglasses lenses. Lastly, your sunglasses are reassembled, tested, and packaged for returned delivery.

Can I buy more than one set of lenses for my sunglasses?

Absolutely. In most cases sunglass frames are designed so lenses can be removed and replaced. As a standard, The Sunglass Fix installs one pair of lenses into your sunglasses. However, if you want more than one pair of lenses for varying conditions, or as a backup in case one pair gets damaged, replacing the lenses is fairly simple.
We provide instructions for replacing lenses in most sunglass styles. In some situations, such as rimless designs or metal frames, the process requires the loosening of a few screws. If you are nervous about this process the sunglasses and lenses could be returned to The Sunglass Fix or taken to a local optometrist to have the lenses changed.

Is it worth getting sunglass replacement lenses for a cheap pair of sunglasses?

It depends on the frame. If you feel the frames are well built and sturdy then it probably is.

Upgrading inexpensive sunglass frames is an economically savvy way to get into a pair of high performance sunglasses. Many of the less expensive models of sunglasses have solid frames but are made with inferior lenses.
If you like the frames, they fit well, and seem sturdy then upgrading them to our lenses is a much better alternative than buying another inexpensive pair. You'll know you have crystal clear, unbreakable, high performance lens ranking in top tier in safety.   See what other customers say about it.

What makes The Sunglass Fix's Lenses perform so well?

The Sunglass Fix's lenses are engineered to perform and last.  Most of our customers  prefer our lenses over the lenses that came with their original sunglasses.  The Sunglass Fix achieves this by focusing on the following key lens qualities:
  • 100% UV Protection and Industry Leading Safety Features – Leading the industry in safety, our optically superb polycarbonate lenses are made of the same material use in bulletproof glass and safety goggles.  These lenses are exponentially stronger than glass and acrylic counterparts commonly found in sunglasses.
  • Real Life Scratch Resistance - The outer lens is coated with a protective layer that is engineered to help prevent scratches. This layer is up to 8 times more abrasion resistant than other  leading brands.

  • Optical Clarity - Our SFx High Clarity lenses have exceptional optical properties and minimise distortion of the users viewing area.  Our Polarized lenses also have great optical clarity properties.
  • Choice of Colours - Get the colours you need, not the ones that came with your original purchase.  The colour of your lenses is a major factor in the performance of your sunglasses and we have more options.

How scratch proof are your lenses?

The Sunglass Fix lenses have been tested using an industry standard, steel wool abrasion test. This process uses a 1.25 square inch 0000 steel wool pad at varying degrees of pressure to find out when visible damage occurs.  The SFx High Clarity lenses provide up to 8 times better abrasion resistance than other leading brands selling for over $200 AUD. This means that in the event that you drop your sunglasses, it will seldom result in annoying scratches and if taken care of, they will last for years. Our SFx Polarized lenses provide similar abrasion protection on their hydrophobic exterior coating.

Does The Sunglass Fix make mirrored lenses?

The Sunglass Fix is carrying a new line of high end silver mirrored lenses in both the SFx High Clarity and SFx Polarised replacement lens range.  These lenses are designed to maximise glare production and are all coated with a super hydrophobic coating.    This coating allows the lenses to be easily cleaned and also provides solid scratch protection for the lens and mirrored coating surface.

Does The Sunglass Fix offer polarised lenses?

The Sunglass Fix now offers  the SFx Polarised lens. Our polarised lenses provide a unique combination of glare protection, safety and performance. Our polycarbonate lens media is fused together with Japanese polarisation film to provide crystal clear vision and hard working glare reduction. The outer lens is coated with a super hydrophobic coating which makes them easy to clean, fog and scratch resistant.

What sunglasses can The Sunglass Fix put Polarised Lenses into ?

When ordering Installed Lenses it is important to note that The Sunglass Fix can put polarised lenses into about 90% of sunglasses on the market. Because our polarised lenses meet industrial grade safety specifications, they are slightly thicker than non-safety lenses used in many sunglasses.  Additionally, some lenses have unique or sharp curves. These may not match our polarised lenses.

We do not recommend polarised lenses be used in rimless or clip in sunglasses as shown below. While the lenses are strong, the polarisation manufacturing process makes them more prone to cracking when drilled or cut for the special angles required for clipping them in.

In the event we cannot fit polarised into an Installed Lenses order, we will contact you with the option to fit our SFX High Clarity lenses and refund the difference, or refund the funds entirely and return you sunglasses.
